Proflex UC+ Complete soft chews for cats and dogs is a daily oral gel joint supplement for horses, distributed in Canada by Proconcepts. Advanced joint support for dogs and cats — UC-II® collagen, glucosamine, chondroitin, and Boswellia. The formula contains Epiitalis® (a patented extract of Biota orientalis), green-lipped mussel, abalone extract (Haliotis iris), and marine cartilage, suspended in a soybean oil gel base with apple flavouring and rosemary extract as a natural preservative. The product is FEI compliant and contains no banned or prohibited substances, making it suitable for sport horses in competition. The recommended maintenance dose for a horse weighing approximately 600 kg (1,323 lb) is 4 ml daily following a 14-day loading phase of 8 ml daily. Doses should be drawn using the included measuring syringe and administered orally or mixed into feed. Available in 3 sizes: 30 Chews / Beef and Cheese, 90 Chews / Beef and Cheese, 2 x 30 Chew packets / Beef and Cheese.

How much Proconcepts do I give my horse?
For a horse weighing 350–650 kg, the maintenance dose is 4 ml daily after a 14-day loading phase of 8 ml daily. Ponies under 350 kg receive 2–4 ml daily. Heavy horses over 650 kg may require up to 6–8 ml daily. Always draw an accurate volume using the included syringe and administer orally or mix into feed.
Is Proconcepts safe for FEI competition horses?
Yes. Proconcepts Epiitalis Forte for Horses is FEI compliant and contains no banned or prohibited substances under FEI regulations, making it safe to use in horses competing at all levels.
How long does it take for Proconcepts to work?
Most horse owners report noticeable improvements in joint mobility and daily movement within the first 30 to 60 days of consistent daily use. Full benefits are typically observed after 90 days of continuous supplementation.
What is Epiitalis® and what does it do?
Epiitalis® is a patented plant seed oil extract derived from Biota orientalis. It is the primary active ingredient in Proconcepts and is designed to support the health of cartilage cells (chondrocytes), help maintain normal joint function, and reduce the inflammatory processes that contribute to joint stiffness and reduced mobility in horses.
Can I give Proconcepts to a horse recovering from surgery?
Yes. For horses recovering from joint surgery or those with significantly compromised joint function, a loading dose of 8 ml daily for the first 14 days is recommended before reducing to the maintenance dose of 4 ml daily.
What size does Proconcepts come in?
Proconcepts Epiitalis Forte for Horses is available in 30 Chews / Beef and Cheese, 90 Chews / Beef and Cheese, 2 x 30 Chew packets / Beef and Cheese. Each pack includes a measuring syringe.

UC-II™ Undenatured Collagen

Most collagen supplements are hydrolyzed — broken down before you take them. UC-II® is different: it's undenatured, meaning it reaches the intestine intact. There, it interacts with immune cells through Peyer's patches and trains the body to stop attacking its own joint cartilage. This is oral tolerization — a mechanism glucosamine, chondroitin, and ASU simply cannot achieve. 10mg of UC-II® has been shown to outperform 2,000mg of glucosamine + 1,600mg of chondroitin in head-to-head studies.

Supported by peer-reviewed research: Lugo et al. (2016) found UC-II improved joint comfort vs glucosamine + chondroitin in a randomized, double-blind trial. Nutrition Journal, 15, 14.

UC-II™ Undenatured Collagen

Glucosamine HCl

A natural building block of cartilage and synovial fluid. Glucosamine provides the raw material for cartilage repair and maintenance — supporting the cushioning between joints so your pet can keep moving comfortably. In ProFlex UC+, glucosamine works synergistically alongside UC-II®, addressing both the structural and immune aspects of joint health simultaneously.

Supported by peer-reviewed research: McCarthy et al. (2007) reported glucosamine supported joint function in dogs with osteoarthritis. The Veterinary Journal, 174(1), 54–61.

Glucosamine HCl

Chondroitin Sulfate

Works alongside glucosamine to keep cartilage hydrated and resilient. Chondroitin attracts and holds water in cartilage tissue — giving it the shock-absorbing properties that cushion impact during daily activity. It also helps slow the activity of enzymes that break down cartilage in inflamed joints. An established partner to glucosamine in joint support protocols.

Supported by peer-reviewed research: Bhathal et al. (2017) reviewed evidence that chondroitin contributed to improved canine joint comfort. Open Veterinary Journal, 7(1), 36–49.

Chondroitin Sulfate

Boswellia Serrata Extract

An extract from the Boswellia tree with well-documented anti-inflammatory activity in companion animals. Boswellia inhibits the 5-LOX pathway — a key driver of leukotrienes involved in joint inflammation — without the gastrointestinal side effects associated with long-term NSAID use. It's the natural analogue to what COX-2 inhibitors do pharmacologically, but with a more favourable safety profile for daily use.

Reichling J et al. (2004). Dietary support with Boswellia resin in canine inflammatory joint and spinal disease. Schweizer Archiv für Tierheilkunde, 146(2), 71–79.

Boswellia Serrata Extract

MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane)

A naturally occurring sulfur compound found in plants, animals, and humans. MSM supports the connective tissue that holds joints together and helps manage the everyday inflammatory response that drives joint discomfort. It acts as a natural source of bioavailable sulfur — critical for forming collagen and other structural proteins in cartilage and ligaments.

Supported by peer-reviewed research: Usha & Naidu (2004) found MSM associated with reduced joint discomfort in a randomized clinical trial. Clinical Drug Investigation, 24(6), 353–363.

MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane)

EPA + DHA (Omega-3 Fatty Acids)

Cold-water marine-sourced omega-3s providing both eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). In the joint context, EPA and DHA help suppress the pro-inflammatory cytokines that drive cartilage degradation and synovial inflammation. They also support the cardiovascular and renal health that underpins a dog's overall ability to stay active. Along with UC-II®, omega-3s are the only joint-related compounds to show benefit in ground force plate studies.

Directions for use

The doses shown here are provided as a general guide based on the manufacturer's recommendations. Always consult your veterinarian before starting any new supplement, and follow their specific guidance over any general information provided on this page.

Before each use: Confirm your dog's weight to choose the correct daily dose. Soft chews can be given directly or broken up over food.
Loading phase

Double dose daily

For the first 4–6 weeks, give the loading dose once daily. This builds active ingredient levels in your pet's system. For pets with no known joint issues, you may start at maintenance.

Maintenance phase

Standard dose daily

After the loading phase, drop to the standard daily dose by weight as listed on the package. Continue daily for ongoing support; if extra help is needed, return to the loading dose.

  1. Choose the dose that matches your dog's weight on the back of the package.
  2. Give directly as a treat or break over food — most dogs love the taste.
  3. Reseal the container after each use and store in a cool, dry place.

Suitable for adult dogs and cats. Consult your veterinarian before use in pregnant or nursing animals, or pets with known immune system conditions. If your pet is on medication, contact PetMeds Direct to speak with our pharmacist before starting any new supplement.

Take your pet's daily care to the next level

Senior Pets

Senior Pets

As dogs and cats age, joint inflammation and cartilage degradation accelerate. ProFlex UC+ helps maintain comfort and mobility in older pets showing everyday signs of wear — slower to rise, reluctant on stairs, less keen on walks. Daily supplementation helps preserve quality of life through their senior years.

Active Dogs

Active Dogs

Sporting, working, and high-activity dogs put enormous daily demand on their joints. ProFlex UC+ provides multi-mechanism daily support — UC-II® for immune protection, glucosamine and chondroitin for structural maintenance, Boswellia for inflammation management, and EPA/DHA for systemic anti-inflammatory support.

Recovery Support

Recovery Support

Suitable for pets returning from orthopaedic surgery or joint injury who need structured daily support during recovery. The loading phase protocol is particularly valuable in this context — starting at double dose builds active ingredient levels faster during the critical recovery window. Always follow your veterinarian's post-surgical recommendations.

Large & Giant Breeds

Large & Giant Breeds

Larger dogs carry more body weight across fewer joints — making joint health management especially important from an early age. ProFlex UC+ is formulated for dogs of all sizes with weight-based dosing, so large and giant breed owners can scale the dose precisely without underdosing.

The "Glucosamine Graduate"

The "Glucosamine Graduate"

Your dog has been on a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement for months — and you're not seeing the improvement you hoped for. ProFlex UC+ works through a completely different mechanism. UC-II® addresses the immune-mediated component of joint disease that glucosamine cannot touch.

Horse benefits

What to expect

Most owners report visible improvements within the first 90 days of daily use.

A more comfortable horse — with each daily dose

Improved daily mobility Easier movement on stairs Supports recovery from activity Tasty soft-chew format
Month 1

Month 1

UC-II®, glucosamine, and Boswellia begin working at the cellular and immune level. Many owners notice less hesitation when rising from rest, smoother movement on morning walks, and less stiffness after periods of inactivity. The oral tolerization process is establishing.

Month 2

Month 2

The UC-II® oral tolerance effect builds progressively. Owners commonly report their pet returning to activities they'd stopped — going upstairs without hesitation, rejoining morning walks at their old pace, playing again. Joint comfort continues improving as cumulative levels of active ingredients stabilize.

Month 3

Month 3

Continued daily use delivers cumulative cartilage protection and sustained immune modulation. Most owners at this stage describe a dog or cat that moves like a younger version of itself. The 90-count size ensures uninterrupted coverage through this critical phase — and beyond.

I've been giving my dog, Tessa, one chew per day for the last month. My vet recommended ProFlex as a supplement to help Tessa's possible arthritis. She absolutely LOVES these chews. Tessa is very healthy and only starting to stiffen up. With these chews, I've noticed that her mobility has improved and, in addition, her coat is softer. They're great.

Frequently Asked Questions

My dog is already on a joint supplement. Should I switch or add this?
ProFlex UC+ is designed to complement rather than replace other joint supplements. UC-II® collagen works through a different mechanism from glucosamine and chondroitin — it addresses the immune-mediated component of joint disease rather than providing structural building blocks. This means the two approaches are genuinely additive. Many dogs are added onto ProFlex UC+ when their current supplement hasn't delivered the results expected, without needing to stop what they're already taking. If your pet is on any prescription medications, contact us before starting and Dr. Adam S. will review.
Is this safe for a dog with kidney or liver disease?
In the clinical studies conducted on UC-II®, dogs showed no changes in liver or kidney function over 150 days of daily supplementation at therapeutic doses — it has a favourable safety profile compared to long-term NSAID use. That said, dogs with diagnosed kidney or liver disease require individual assessment, as some ingredients are metabolised differently in compromised organs. If your dog has a known liver or kidney condition, please contact us directly before starting. Dr. Adam S. can review your pet's specific situation and the full ingredient list with you before you order.
What's the difference between the 30 count and the 90 count — should I start with the smaller one?
The 30 count is a reasonable starting point if you want to confirm your pet accepts the chew before committing to a larger quantity. However, given that UC-II®'s mechanism takes 60–90 days to fully establish, 30 chews only covers the loading phase at a single dose — you won't have had enough time to evaluate whether the supplement is working. The 90 count gives you the full trial period needed for a fair assessment, at a meaningfully lower cost per chew. The 2×30 bundle is a middle option for households with more than one pet or those who prefer not to commit to 90 days upfront.
Does it need to be given with food, and what if I miss a day?

ProFlex UC+ can be given with or without food — most dogs take it directly as a treat. Giving it at the same time each day builds a routine, which is the best way to maintain consistency. If you miss a single day, simply continue with the normal dose the following day — do not double up. The oral tolerization process is robust enough that occasional missed doses won't set you back significantly, but regular gaps will slow the cumulative effect. If you're finding it difficult to remember, linking it to a daily meal is the simplest fix.
How long before I actually see a difference?
UC-II® works through oral tolerization — a process that builds gradually over time. Most owners notice early changes within 4–6 weeks: less hesitation rising from rest, smoother movement on walks, more willingness to use stairs. Meaningful improvement typically becomes clear by 60–90 days of consistent daily use. This is not a fast-acting pain reliever — it's a cumulative mechanism. The research protocol that demonstrated UC-II®'s results used 120–150 day supplementation periods. Consistency is everything: don't judge it at 3 weeks.
My dog will refuse anything that isn't food. Will they actually eat this?
ProConcepts backs every supplement with a 100% palatability guarantee — if your pet won't take it, contact us. The beef and cheese flavour was specifically selected for dogs and cats. Most pets accept the chew directly from hand or eat it crumbled over food without any coaxing. Palatability failure is the single most common reason supplements stop being given — and the reason the product stops working. ProConcepts takes this seriously, which is why the guarantee exists and why the flavour was chosen based on acceptance trials rather than just what smells nice to humans.
Can I start giving this to my young dog before joint problems develop?
Yes — preventive use is clinically appropriate, particularly in large and giant breeds that carry elevated lifetime joint disease risk. Starting joint support before degeneration is established is considerably more effective than waiting for visible symptoms, because cartilage damage is largely irreversible. For younger dogs without active joint issues, begin at the maintenance dose rather than the loading dose, and maintain daily supplementation as a long-term routine. Speak with your veterinarian about the right time to start for your breed and size.
